Other resorts are less hectic but still can boast the finest facilities and calm waters. Barely discovered jewels can still be found though, the approach to Nai Thon along the coast road is spectacular and is a perfect prologue to this piece of paradise.

The warm waters, averaging 28 C, great visibility and abundant marine life of the Andaman Sea make this a great place whether you are a complete beginner or already an expert. Nightlife
Patong is loud, raucous and truly unforgettable! But Phuket boasts other less frenetic resorts and dining on the island ranges from high-end restaurants with thoughtfully stocked wine cellars to delicious yet cheap seafront shacks. The amazing Phuket FantaSea is not to be missed; this is a Thai cultural extravaganza with a live show featuring elephants, tigers and other animals, traditional Thai dancing, pyrotechnics, acrobatics and more - great for all ages.
Shopping
Now rivalling Bangkok for serious shopping, Phuket is retail heaven. The island has great variety from street stalls and local shops to western style department stores and upmarket boutiques. Patong has fantastic handicrafts and the streets are lined with stalls full of clothing, housewares, leather and jewellery items ready to be bartered for. Your only regret will be that you didnt bring a bigger bag.
Activities
Phuket is the perfect destination for an active holiday. Watersports facilities are good and plentiful, offering activities including water skiing, wind-surfing and sailing. Back on dry land, the island is fantastic for golf enthusiasts too with six international standard courses in idyllic tropical settings. A horse-riding centre and shooting range add to the diversity on offer. However, if you're looking to take a breather then there are many types of spa available, each a unique haven of relaxation and tranquiity.
