Whygo2 Koh Samui
Letsgo2 employees have travelled extensively to the destinations we feature. Here are the five main reasons they consider a visit to Koh Samui.
Beaches
Koh Samui's beautiful tropical beaches are a major attraction; they range from quiet, authentic Thai villages to busy, modern resorts. Perhaps the best known is Chaweng on the eastern side of the island boasting a wide range of restaurants, cafes and various watersports and the setting is fabulous - over 7km of soft white sand and clear blue water. Bo Phut on the north of Samui has a traditional atmosphere and is quieter, while Taling Ngam on the west of the island is secluded and palm-lined; the perfect place to enjoy the outstanding sunsets. If you love the beach this is the island for you.
Angthong National Marine Park
When you can drag yourself away from the beach this daytrip must be top of your list. Angthong National Marine Park is a collection of 42 limestone islands just west of Samui boasting virgin rainforest, white sand beaches and coral reefs. The park's name means 'Golden Bowl' and is named after a land-locked lake on one of the islands - the inspiration for the setting of the best-selling novel 'The Beach' . Enjoy a day of snorkeling and kayaking in the aquamarine waters surrounded by amazing limestone monoliths, carved by years of erosion.
Watersports
A holiday in Samui normally means a lot of time spent in the water. Whether you wish to be active or more laid-back, the island offers a wide range of high quality watersports opportunities. Choose from being on the water or in it: water-ski, snorkel, sail gently around the tropical islands or explore the limestone caves by kayak. Diving is particularly popular and Samui offers first class tuition and dive possibilities all year round
Places to see and things to do
It's worth spending a day or two exploring this stunning area away from its coastline. Traditional Thai temples, elephant trekking, lovely waterfalls and day trips to nearby islands like Koh Phangan all vie for your attention. Also, Samui is fast gaining a reputation as a spa retreat and a number of top quality health spas have opened where you can be pampered and rejuvenated. For a more high-octane thrill the dining and entertainment possibilities of Chaweng make this resort an international destination.
Climate
The weather is always beautiful in Koh Samui, with blue-sky days and gentle ocean breezes to cool you in the evenings. The temperature averages 30 C, being slightly cooler December to February. From September to November is the so-called rainy season, though you will only find yourself in the refreshing shower for a moment or two before the sun comes back out.
